Okuma Machine: An Overview

The Okuma was founded in the year 1898 by Eiichi Okuma. Eiichi was a manufacturer and profits from Noodle-Making machines. It began manufacturing tools in 1904, launched their OS Lathe in 1918, and became Japan’s No. 1 in 1937. Later on, the company would launch their Numerically Controlled Drilling and Grinder in 1963 and began developing their own CNC (machine) in 1972. After the development of their own CNC, all machines that were manufactured were no longer NC but upgraded to CNC.

With their tagline, Open Possibilities, it means that possibilities were opened through manufacturing. In creating their machine tools, they aim for excellence by designing and innovating technologies that would help the growth of your industry.

Their machines are best for providing the parts and built of Aerospace, Automotive, Construction, Gas, Energy & Oil, Medicine, Molding, etc. and in pursuit of excellence, the company now offers six (6) products (Lathes, Machining Centers, Grinders, Lasers, Double Columns, and Automation Systems) with a wide range of selections per machine that will cater your every manufacturing need.

CNC Lathes

Okuma offers three types of Lathes – Vertical, Horizontal, and Multitasking lathes. They have a variety of bore sizes, bed lengths, and optional features that allow the creation of customizable lathes that are capable of addressing any of your manufacturing needs. The machines are thermo friendly, efficient, and are able to create many parts out of a single machine.
The varieties of categories for the Lathes they offer are –

  • 1-Saddle CNC Lathes
  • 2-Saddle CNC Lathes
  • Aluminum Wheel Applications
  • Parallel Spindle CNC Lathes
  • Twin Spindle Turning Centers
  • Vertical CNC Lathes

In the recent IMTS (year 2022), Okuma featured their VT1000EX, a vertical lathe, which claims that it could be pushed to maximum the limits of both physics and engineering. It is programmed to deliver maximum power, thrust, and torque and guarantees that it could cut difficult materials and complex geometries easily.

CNC Machining Centers

For machining centers, Okuma offers three types – Horizontal, Vertical, and 5-axis machining centers with guaranteed power, accuracy, and stability on their innovative technology. These machines were designed to offer flexibility and deliver maximum productivity for your manufacturing operation.

CNC Grinders

Okuma offers two types of Grinders – NC Cylindrical (a.k.a. OD) Grinders and NC Internal (a.k.a. I.D.) Grinders that are programmed with their intelligent OSP-P300G CNC Control – the company’s latest innovation – this design allows easier access of the screens and removes the need to jump from five-six screens at a time. It is efficient, thus productivity for your manufacturing operation is increased.

Lasers

The ability to multi-task is essential for industrial CNC machines. Okuma proudly offers their “Award-winning MU-8000V Laser EX” as it offers both additive and subtractive capabilities unlike the traditional CNC machines. With The ability to offer both processes, Okuma guarantees maximum productivity for your manufacturing operation.

This machine has the ability to shape unique and geometrically complex shapes regardless of size. Instead of the classic Laser Metal Fusion, Okuma’s award-winning laser machine utilizes a Laser Metal Deposition and this technique offers four (4) advantages – Material exchange & Part Inspection in the Mid Process, Coolant is used for the work envelope, Faster Process, and allows fabrication of 3-D items.

Double Columns Machining Centers

Perfect for industries like Electronics, Aerospace, and Automotive since it has the ability to provide power and stability to create parts that are detail-oriented to ensure safety for the industries’ crafts. As a matter of fact, Okuma utilizes these machines to manufacture the parts that they need for their machines. It is indeed high quality as it is trusted by one of the most trusted brands. Okuma offers two types of Double Column Machining centers and these are – Double-Column Machining Centers (5-Sided Applications) and Double-Column Machining Centers (MCR-AF and MCV-AII).

Automation Systems

The automation programmed by the company are designed to be efficient and increase profitability via its automated process for the benefit of your manufacturing operation. The new generation automation – Okuma Gantry Loader, New ROID series, and Automatic Pallet Changers – guarantees (perfect) precision and interfaces that are easy to navigate in order for an easier and efficient manufacturing process thus ensuring success for your operation.

With the range of high-quality machine selections, Okuma guarantees that each machine was designed to bring ease and order for your manufacturing operation. Whatever your organization needs, Okuma may have the solution for you.
